Harry Poter and The Deathly Hallows

The wait is almost over for all the harry potter fanatics. The most awaited book-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-in recent memory will hit the book stores in a few hours time. The fans will line up in large numbers to get the final installment of favorite book in their hands and read thorough it and put an end a period of intense discussions, Rumors etc.All wait for the final confrontation between Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, the Chosen One, the “symbol of hope” for both the Wizard and Muggle worlds, and Lord Voldemort, He Who Must Not Be Named, the nefarious leader of the Death Eaters and would-be ruler of all. Good versus Evil. Love versus Hate.

The first installment of the book written by J.K.Rowling was published in 1997. From then on Harry Potter mania has gripped this world like no other book in history ever has. With each installment, the “Potter” series has grown increasingly dark, and this volume wil be no exception. Many of the readers, including myself, have grown up reading and waiting for the next installment of the book to hit the bookstores.

I first read the book when i was in 10th. and from the first book onwards i'm hooked on to it. and i have lost the count of the number of times i have reread each book from cover to cover. and like all other HP fans i'm eagerly waiting for the books to hit the stores but i'm not sure if 'll go and buy it outright as this is where the price factor comes in.Maybe 'll borrow it from a friend( well i have booked the book from at least 5 people after making them promise that i'll be first to get the book after they finish reading it once :-) ]

Well finally the book is coming out we'll get to know what happens to Harry. What is going to happen to Voldemort-the villain of the book? who lives and who dies? what will be the life of those who live after that? and many more.

The wait is finally OVER.

But what ever happens in the book the legend of Harry Potter will live on and will be passed on to many generations.Visit this blog site entirely dedicated to Harry Potter

The New 7 Wonders

A event was conducted to crown the new 7 world wonders of the world. out of s list of 20 or so beautiful monuments 7 had to be selected and the results were to be declared in Lisbon,Portugal on 7-7-07. One of the wonders was our beloved Taj Mahal. The voting started months ago and by the start of the final stage of voting Taj was no where in the top seven. This generated messages in news channels "is India sleeping?".People started telling Taj wont make it to the top 10,forget the top7. People then realized that what was happening and then started the massive campaigning to vote for taj. Even many celebrities started to take part and people messaged, emialed, scrapped their friends and relatives to vote.and the votes started piling in

When the dust settled on the gala event in which the results of the poll was announced, guess what Taj was among the top 7, one of the new 7 wonders of the world. the new seven wonders are

The Great Wall, China Petra, Jordan Christ Redeemer, Brazil

Chichén Itzá, Mexico The Roman Colosseum, Italy The Taj Mahal, India

Machu Pichu,Peru

This shows that if Indian people are challenged to anything they don't back down. they will stand up and give their best.

Books and Me!!!!

Well in my earlier post i have posted that 'm a voracious reader of books. well ya its true. i have been reading books ever since i remember.Even when i was in school i used to read my english text book well before the teacher has taken it in class. I used to finish off the text book in the holidays itself.
I first started off by reading comics like Champak, Tinkle etc. These were my first books and i still have them. I have not given it out or something like that. the oldest Champak comic book i have dates back to 1993. So most probably i must have started reading these books then. First and all i used to read only the picture stories and all. Later on i started to read the short stories in them. I always used to like Tinkle those days as they had fully illustrated stories only. Once somebody, i dont exactly remember, brought me a huge bundle of books, the ones of Phantom, Mandrake and all. I gave them for book binding as they were in almost in taters. and after binding i got a set of 5 books in which each book was atleast 2 inches thick. So you can Imagine how huge the bundle initially was.

Slowly i graduated to other books other than Champak, tinkle and those kind of books. While i was looking for something in my fathers cupboard i found some old paperbacks. I started reading them and like them. Then my father started bringing me some paperbacks. When i was in 4th or 5th, PaiCo, which is a leading book selling shop in Kerala brought out a series of classics in illustrated format. This was my first encounter with classics. and when i started reading them i didnt know that these were classics. These included books like Gone with the wind, Tom swayer, Oliver Twist, Most classics of Shakesphere, Robinson Crusoe , Dracula etc. I enjoyed reading these books very much. There were 30 books in the series before they discontinued it. In between this i got 2 huge book. One of which contained all the stories in Arabian Nights and the other one which had all the Shakespearen classics.

Well that time i was in Mumbai and whenever i got a chance i used to buy lots of books. Once when i came back to Kochi for a holiday one of my mom's cousin introduced me to a library. That was my first time in a Library. and i used to take books from his account and that was the first time i read fiction books. This was also the time i started reading books like Hardy Boys, Enid Blyton etc.

In 10th i had the taste of Harry Potter. From then on i have read all the 6 books(till now) a number of times. I have read it so many times that i have lost count. Then after 10th i took my my membership in a library and from then on i regularly used to take books from there and read. Even now i try to read at least one book per week even when exams are on. I cannot say that i read daily books because once i start a book i cannot rest until i end the book.

My favorite book till now are da Vinci code and most of the books of Dan Brown, HP series, J.R.R Tolkien's modern day epic The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Firm by John Grisham, Timeline by Michale Crichton, The godfather by Mario Puzo, The Bourne Series by Robert Ludlum and there are many more.

My favorite author's are Dan Brown and J.K. Rowling. Nowadays i read lot of books written by of John Grisham an Robert Ludlum.

India- The Positives and Negatives

Well India is a developing country and is considered as one of the future economic powers. But for that to happen the country must produce good citizens first. We look everywhere and find people lambasting about everything they could find about this country. They just look at the negatives that are and not the positives.I could go on and on writing about the prejudice the citizens of the country throw against it but it would be better if i put a speech by our beloved President Dr Kalam here. This was a speech he gave at a function at Hyderabad.Just spare 10 minutes and read it. This was forwarded to me by a friend.

* The President of India DR. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam 's Speech in Hyderabad . *

" Why is the media here so negative?
Why are we in India so embarrassed to recognize our own strengths, our
achievements? We are such a great nation. We have so many amazing success
stories but we refuse to acknowledge them. Why?
We are the first in milk production.
We are number one in Remote sensing satellites.
We are the second largest producer of wheat.
We are the second largest producer of rice.
Look at Dr. Sudarshan , he has transferred the tribal village into a
self-sustaining, self-driving unit. There are millions of such achievements
but our media is only obsessed in the bad news and failures and disasters. I
was in Tel Aviv once and I was reading the Israeli newspaper. It was the
day after a lot of attacks and bombardments and deaths had taken place. The
Hamas had struck. But the front page of the newspaper had the picture of a
Jewish gentleman who in five years had transformed his desert into an orchid
and a granary. It was this inspiring picture that everyone woke up to. The
gory details of killings, bombardments, deaths, were inside in the
newspaper, buried among other news.

In India we only read about death, sickness, terrorism, crime. Why are we so
NEGATIVE? Another question: Why are we, as a nation so obsessed with foreign
things? We want foreign T. Vs, we want foreign shirts. We want foreign
technology.

Why this obsession with everything imported. Do we not realize that
self-respect comes with self-reliance? I was in Hyderabad giving this
lecture, when a 14 year old girl asked me for my autograph. I asked her what her goal
in life is. She replied: I want to live in a developed India . "
This was the inspirational speech given by a man whom we all idolize. To make a country great first the citizens of the country must be great. We can give commentary form out side a field about how bad the field is. thats the easy way out that most people take. But to make the field clean clean we have to enter the field to make it better. So people if you dream of living in a developed India first we have to develop ourselves. At least for the generations to come lets make our country great so that they can proudly say that they live in INDIA.
