Poems from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

(This post was languishing as a draft for a long long time, considering the movie came out in 2011)

I just love the poems that Imraan(Farhan Akhtar) recites in the movie "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara". Each of them carry simple yet profound messages for everyone. Written by Javed Akhtar it had to be awesome but I'm simply taken aback by the simplicity and the verve in each line.

Read, Understand, Feel...

Ik baat honton tak hai jo aayi nahin
Bas ankhon say hai jhaankti
Tumse kabhi, mujhse kabhi
Kuch lafz hain woh maangti
Jinko pehanke honton tak aa jaaye woh
…Aawaaz ki baahon mein baahein daalke ithlaye woh
Lekin jo yeh ik baat hai
Ahsas hi ahsas hai
Khushboo si hai jaise hawa mein tairti
Khushboo jo be-aawaaz hai
Jiska pata tumko bhi hai
Jiski khabar mujhko bhi hai
Duniya se bhi chupta nahin
Yeh jaane kaisa raaz hai..

Jab jab dard ka baadal chaya
Jab ghum ka saya lehraya
Jab aansoo palkon tak aya
Jab yeh tanha dil ghabraya

Humne dil ko yeh samjhaya
…Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai
Duniya mein yunhi hota hai
Yeh jo gehre sannate hain
Waqt ne sabko hi baante hain
Thoda ghum hai sabka qissa
Thodi dhoop hai sabka hissa
Aankh teri bekaar hi nam hai
Har pal ek naya mausam hai
Kyun tu aise pal khota hai
Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai.......

Pighlay neelam sa behta hua yeh samaan
Neeli neeli si khamoshiyaan
Na kahin hai zameen
Na kahin aasmaan
Sarsaraati huyi tehniyaan, pattiyaan
Keh rahi hain ki bas ek tum ho yahaan
Sirf main hoon meri saansein hain aur meri dhadkanein
Aisi gehraiyaan
Aisi tanhaiyaan
Aur main sirf main
Apne honay pe mujhko yaqeen aa gaya

Dilon mein tum apni
Betaabiyan leke chal rahe ho
Toh zinda ho tum
Nazar mein khwabon ki
Bijliyan leke chal rahe ho
Toh zinda ho tum
Hawa ke jhokon ke jaise
Aazad rehno sikho
Tum ek dariya ke jaise
Lehron mein behna sikho
Har ek lamhe se tum milo
Khole apni bhaayein
Har ek pal ek naya samha
Dekhen yeh nigahaein
Jo apni aankhon mein
Hairaniyan leke chal rahe ho
Toh zinda ho tum
Dilon mein tum apni
Betaabiyan leke chal rahe ho
Toh zinda ho tum

3 Idiots - All izz well

If you haven't seen the movie pls dont read this post.. This post might contain spoilers.

3 idiots is a story that will possible be related to each and every one of us engineers but still is very different from that. The story is loosely based on Chetan Bhagat's Five point someone, but with a lot of chances in the plot and all that. The familiar Hari, Alok and Ryan and replaced by the new Rancho(Rancchoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad), Raju(Rastogi) and Farhan(Qureshi). The IIT-Delhi is replaced my the Impreial College of Engineering run by the hard nosed Professor Viru Sahastrabudhhe(Virus).

The movie in engineering terms can be said as a sine wave with happiness and seriousness alternating up and down. Like the peppy Aal Izz Well song drawing towards a tragic climax it's so cleverly done that it has the desired effect. There are scenes that'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry and they'll make you think. Most films have their own set of 'highlight' scenes. 3 Idiots is different because every scene is special and brings with it something that's out of the ordinary. But there are a few that have a far lasting impact the entire ragging sequence; Chatur's hilarious speech(i died laughing), the 1950's discription of Raju's family; Joy's I quit scene(after the all izz well song); Maddy persuading his family to let him take up wildlife photography and Sharman's interview; the sequences that lead to Raju's recovery in the hospital and last but not the least the scene of using a crudely made engineering tool used for pregnancy.

The film had everyhting and more and it was an instant classic. Overall, ‘3 Idiots’ is one film which will surely leave you with a smile. There will be a few glances at your watch if you have a problem sitting at one place for too long. But other than that, in all probabilities, you might have started saying ‘Aal izz well’ to yourself!

As for Raju Hirani - first it was Jaado ki Jappi(Munna Bhai MBBS), then Gandhigiri(Lage Raho MunnaBhai) and now "All izz Well". You sure know how to spark a new idea.. Lage raho raju ji :)

To the makers (pants down) : Jahanpana... Tussi great ho... tofa kubul karo..

Hidden well admist all the laughter and emotions is the message to all Youngsters : Follow your heart. Dont run after success, let success follow you. :)

Tare Zameen Par

Today i went for Tare Zameen Par. I wanted to see this movie beign a Aamir fan. But could not go. Finally today the chance came through. But when we went to the theater we found that the film had shifted to another theater. Shit!!! But somehow we were able to get there in time and get the tickets as there was not much rush.

The story is about a child, Ishaan, who suffers dyslexia . But he suffers a lot because no one around him recognizes that he is a slow learner. He is a good painter but his parents are always thinking about his marks. One day he bunks school and gets his brother to sign the leave note. but parents somehow come to know and he is taken to task by his father. They move him to a boarding school so that he learns discipline. A very emotional scene ensues.

In boarding school also its no different for ishant. He is labelled idiot, crazy, duffer and all sort of things. all students , except his friend rajan, make fun of him. Then comes a new art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, played by Aamir khan. He understands the symptoms shown by Ishant and also goes to his home to know more. As he too was a Dyslexic he helps Ishant overcome his troubles like making him understand letters, shapes etc. Finally Ishant is able to overcome his problems . he wins a painting competition organized by Ram and also does well in academics. His parents are surprised when they came to collect his repost card.
The film is excellent according to me. How can u not love a film which is made with so much compassion. An issue based movieis hardly made in India and Aamir Khan has broken all the norms by deciding tomake his directorial debut with such a drastically different film and kudos to him and his creative team of writers. The Scenes are excellently taken for example the starting scene in which Ishant is picking fishes from the gutter, the sequence in which he bunks class, the scene in which his parents leave him in boarding school and many more to say about.

Overall 'll give it 9.5 out of 10. The songs are narrative( well placed and have a meaning in the movie) and the the lyrics have meanings. Music is good. A must watch and for me one of the movies of 2007 along with Chake De India!!!

Om Shanti Om (OSO)

I have not been to any movie for the last 3 months which is unusual of me cos i go for a movie atleast once a month. but this time i was busy for 3 months with end of sem rush, projects and exams. Finally on saturday i went for the SRK starer Om Shanti Om.
Om Shanti Om brings to mind the song in which Rishi Kapoor is dancing on a spinning disk in the movie Karz. Well OSO is almost a remake of that movie with some more details. the release saw the clash of the titans with Sanjay Leela Bansali's Saawariay and OSO clashing at the box office . But the SRK starer prevailed and broke most of the records in the first week itself.

I went for the film as there was no other good film playing at that time( and i had no other choice too :-) ). The film starts with the song i mentioned above. Its the story of Om Prakash Makhija(funny name) who is a junior artist who falls in love with a big actress Shantipriya. But she loves someone else who kills her . the only witness is Om who dies on the same day after hurting himself in the process of rescuing Shanti. 30 years later Om is Om Kapoor who is a leading actor in the film industry and he somehow finds out what happened to him in the earlier birth and in the process tries to bring the murderer of Shanti to justice.

The movie is good to watch with very funny comic scenes. A scene which some to mind instantly is SRK playing the role of a south india actor. " ENNA RASCALA. MIND ITTT" :-). The ending is unpredictable but the story overall does not have a feel to it. The songs are good(but Shahrukh trying to be Hrithik was absoloute rubbish).
Overall i'll give it 6/10. Deepika in her first film is excellent. Arjun Rampal and Shreyas too gave good performances. Well you can guess that 'm not a ShahRukh fan ;-)

Watch the clip below. ENNA RASCALA! MIND ITT!!!
