Riding out into the Sunset

Life has never been easy. No one said it would ever be. But it all depends on how the individuals take it and what they make of it. We could either go down the hard way or the soft up, up or down. To quote Oscar Wilde "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." But to be able to look at the stars you need to have that dream, the rich mind-set & the right approach.

Well talking about my life, it has been so kind to me till date, well there have been those prickly thorns on the way, but then we all need some sort of a balance. The time i have spent in my college, ie the 4 and half years in TIST have taught me a lot of thing, more than the rest of my 20 sometime life has taught me. Apart from the routine stuff, I learnt a lot about relationships; with friends, with roommates, with friendly classmates, with not-so-friendly classmates, with seniors, with juniors, with faculties, with greatest buddies, with the administration, with the small time workers in college. All have in some or the other way given me a lot of food for thought and bits of wisdom from their own experiences.

The moments are really memorable and i maybe able to carry a vivid collage of memories with me wherever i go. Some of the positions i have held have taught me a lot about responsibility and man management. And i found ppl with good potential and those who could be leaders in their own respect. Some moments are really worth remembering for the rest of my life & some are such nightmarish that its stupidity will keep haunting me in the days to come. ;) But hey they left me a bit more wiser than i ought to be, so no regrets. :)

But life as it is, is supposed to move pretty fast & so it will. I better refuel my veins with the same adrenaline that I used to have & get back to the usual mode as soon as possible. Life is not going to appreciate me taking my own sweet time to get a bit of the rest while i can and recharge my batteries. But life is tough. So why not face it bravely & get re-energized. It’s time to move on finally and end my 4 and a half year tenure in TIST, as a student, a teacher, a helping hand, an adventurist, a so called motivator, a PJ master and what not. But life moves on and guess my time in my alma matter is finally up and its my time for me to ride out into the sunset :)
Want to end this post with a quote...
Part of being a winner, is knowing when enough is enough. Sometimes you have to give up the fight and walk away, and move on to something that's more productive.” - Donald Trump

Bad Day at work and a stupid new rule

Ok.. i've had a bad day.. so this post can go from downright ranting to a lot of self introspection. If u are not interested to read, pls check out my other posts.

I just had a bad day at the office, which seems the trend of the past 2 weeks. I've been slaughtered for doing nothing out of the ordinary and by the book. now if doing by the book is wrong, at least the person on the other side can tell me what is the right way to do it? But no... they wont and they want everything to be right even if is already right and way better than they expect it to be. some one just said to me " Some people just cant handle power". I say true.. Getting the power does not mean that u slat all of ur subordinates that u dont like. First you got to understand what is wrong rater than directly thinking that the thing is wrong.

Well some people take a position of power for granted thinking that they can say anything and no one will question them. They are the only one right , they are infallible.. They will go to heaven whereas all the others can go to hell.. well for ur sake.. don't take our silence as our weak point for we are silent only by choice, once we explode u wouldn't have a thing to say. When the argument started today i had half a mind to pay back in the same coin, but what stopped me is not the position of the person any other such attribute. We have been taught to be respectful towards our elders and be thankful that i remembered it of the person might have left ashen face today. But still i ended up on the receiving end with a lot of people watching..

I dont know why i'm not the center of attention for a lot of people. Seems like i have a magnet attached to me which drags them to me and i always end up on the wrong side of a one sided debate. Guess i'm getting paid back for some bad things i did in my college, or maybe the other just dont like me and want me out(which i'll be even if they want or dont want). I just wanna get out on good terms and not be a part of any controversy while i'm leaving. So pls don't test my patience.....

Now on to something funny, but it irritated me to the core.. I heard a rumor circulating of some new rule the college had implemented.. The rule goes like this: At any time, no girl and boy should be seen roaming around together in the college, an group of equal number of girls as boys is also not advised. and some more about proportion of boys and girls allowed who can talk and etc etc etc.. I was like "The college is going down the dumps". First of all explain to me why u want to have such a rule implemented.. why not just have a boys college and a girls college. That will solve a lot of problems. Secondly, do u think its gonna do any good? What the bull***t are you gonna achieve with that? The message u are trying to spread is that you dont trust your own students. I dont know who made this rule or implemented it, but he seems like a nutter who was still alive when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Well let me ask you another simple question? Tell me any other leading college(mixed) which advocates this policy? and in this world, how successful do u think its gonna be?? and at this rate its better to call it a convent than a college... Rule makers, You decide...

Exam Day

This is something i had penned up a long time ago while i was working for the college magazine(sigh!!).. The EXAM DAY.. its something most of us hate.. the worst ting in college(for some). The endless hours in front of books without taking in anything, the tension of the day, the nervousness, the laziness of waking up early(or staying up late), the expectation of people around you.. I know most of us have experienced it and sometimes in a better way and sometimes in a bad way.. This is something that came from me just out of instinct and ihave just put in a few things that came to my mind.. Enjoy Reading..

Morning 5.30

Tring tring tring

Bloody alarm.. wont let me sleep in peace.. shut up u useless gizmo

Oh god . I have an exam today…

Hurries off from bed.. to the table and opens the books

Where do I start.. where do I start.. why cant i get a day more

Let me start with the last module.. I haven’t done much from it

Dozes off on the table itself after half an hour of struggle wit the photostats

6.30

“wake up you idiot.. don’t u have exam today” says mom. “sit and study”

Oh ya ya

Lazily opens the book again and continues the struggle..

7.00

oh its 7 already… ‘m late.. Have to start getting ready

Should I take a bath or not?? ‘ll have a short one..

Where is my uniform.. oh damn its not pressed yet

7.30

‘m late… have to rush..

Takes a Photostat in hand he rushes out

On the road..

ahhrrggg.. there is my neighbor coming… hope he does not see me.. or else will have to answer a thousand useless questions

Damn.. he has seen me

after a small conversation on useless stuff and during which the neighbour asks "are u having exam today"(replies "YES") our champ rushes off.

Mannn.. Now‘ll have to find ways to avoid him today evening

Reaches bus stop

There is no one here.. have I missed the bus.. shit had to happen today

Oh wait.. there are some ppl standing there… lucky me didn’t miss the bus.. atleast not today

In the bus:

Everyone is studying.. everyone is studying hard

Suddenly “ Bro did you study the question about design issues.. Thats is always asked in university exams”

Ah what.. what question.. “Dude.. on which page is that”

Now I have to study this question and there are many more that I have to look into

God.. Cant we have a flash strike today? why doesn’t the paper leak

9.00 A.M

Ah everyone seems so confident…

Sms’s every known person who is not writing the exam to pray for him

Time to get ready.. or else the invigilator wont let me inside

Oh no no no no.. dont let it be.. pls pls.. not today pls no… had to happen.. feel like kicking myself. i had to Forget my hall ticket

After a rush to the exam cell to get a temprory hall ticket.. .some how manages to enter the hall on time…

Out of Breth.. Phew!! Made it..

Ah ha.. the invigilator does not look tough…

Invigilaor : “ where is ur hall ticket and id card”

“here Mam” why is she asking.. cant she just let me in.. bloody formalities

Invigilator: “ok.. are u clean?? kept no bit and chits for exam?”

“no. mam”

“Ok go and take ur seat”

“Thank you mam” As if I wouldn’t have taken it unless u said so.

Small prayer.. god pls let the exam be easy

9.30

Bell rings. Out come the paper

Oh not another colored paper.. pls.. yeah its colored and that too a horrible dark blue.. yuck

Gets the paper… goes through it..

Hmmm seems ok.. guess I can manage to pass.. I don’t know the question in 4th module.. no problems.. I’ll just write something to fill in 2 pages

Starts writing

First module is ok.. I know it byheart

Question 1 has 10 points… hey what was the 3rd point… hmmm hmmm .. man I’m not getting it.. ya that’s it.. or is it?.. guess it has to be.. (makes up a hypothetical point and goes on with the question)

10.30

3 pages, a module and half later..

God my hands have started paining… should I ask the invigilator to massage it for me?

A knock on the door and a whole group of teachers come into the room

Head of the group “pls co-operate with us.. we are the invigilation team and we are just doing our duty.. all of u are requested to give us your full support”

Oh good… luckily I didn’t think of keeping a chit today.. hmmm

hey that sir is keeping an eye out for me.. am I looking so notorious?.. i did take a bath today..

One teacher : “ ok its your turn now.. turn out your pockets”

Eh.. Ok sir..

“eh wht is this”

“ my kerchief sir”

“unfold it and flap it”

Done

“why have u in-shirted”

“uh uh, sir??”

“put it out.. write the exam in a casual way.. put it out”

“ok sir”

“ ok you are clean.. Continue writing.. no wait… u have a baniyan inside?”

“yes sir”

“pull it out too”

“eh what sir.. pull that out too”

“yes… didn’t u hear what I said”

“uh” done

“ok carry on”

Damn.. why such bloody formalities.. if I wanted to keep a “chit” I can find better places than that.. and for heavens sake they didn’t check my sock or my boot.. if I had one their.. all their check was going to be a waste.. next time I know where to keep a chit and get off with it..

Bloody hell.. wasted my time

11.00

Struck in the middle of a question

Oh wht to write next.. I don’t know the other question from the options.. somehow have to write this

5 mins later…

Leave it.. ‘ll come back later. .hope I get some idea about it.

Oh there is Rahul.. he has already taken his first sheet.. looks like he is gonna top the exam where as I’ll be on the opposite end of the spectrum.

11.30

Another question half left

God.. only a hour more and all I have done is 3 questions.. this is going from bad to worse

Oh god pls help pls help

Guess I’ll have to ask some body

“(silently)dude .. dude .. dude”

Finally he looks..

Ah saved

Take the question paper and point out the question.. the guy does not understand.. signals the question number with fingers

He looks as if he is ready to help.. guess 'll be saved.. Atleast this question

Then with a indication wit the fist he says he doesn’t know

Man… ‘ll kill u as soon as I get out of this hall.. thats a definite

12.00

I should not have wasted all those time playing those stupid computer games during study holidays.. next time ‘ll keep that in mind… this paper is almost out of my hands now..

Rahul has taken his 4th extra sheet… seems like he knows every damn thing there is in the text book

That’s it.. ‘m out of here.. no point in sitting

With that our champ takes the thread and ties the paper… and after a final look at the questions walks out in a really sullen mood.

Outside the hall some body asks “hey dude.. How was the paper?”

!@#$&^%!#$^&(*&^%# (for the person who set the paper, for the person who was invigilating, for the person who enquired, for everyone..)

12.30

Everyone will be out now

There is Rahul.. looks like he is gonna get cent percent

Are my eyes playing tricks on me… who are those ppl surrounding him?

Girls.. oh good.. i could have been in his shoes had i studied and not wasted my time on those games, movies, hangouts, night outs (as u know the list is long)..

Looks like its his day today.. Mera number aayega..

(for Rahul)Mere haat aayega na baachu dikha dunga tuje.. Tabhi yeh ladkiyan nahi hogi..

Eh why worry.. there is always a second chance.. and that time ‘m gonna make sure that I put in extra effort..

And there goes another paper..

Lot of Questions and lot of answers...

Its been say 4 months since i finally passed out of 4 years of B.Tech and life slowly started unraveling itself. Telling someone that u are a B.Tech degree holder immediatly puts up questions that everyone seems eager to know "Are u placed somewhere?" "Are u working somewhere?" "Are u planning for higher degree? which one M.Tech or MBA?" and blah blah blah and more blahs... Well for now i'm on a WORKING... I'm working as a Research Assistant in my own college(Ya 'm getting paid.. well atleast for the time being)... I have been there for a month and a half now...

To be in the college after passing out seems different. I actually didn't plan to join and spent 2 months sitting at home and making myself appear like a Teapot after being a couch potato all the while. The opportunity to join college presented itself i joined not exactly sure what 'm getting myself into. But i did and 'm happy that i'm not telling everyone who will listen to me that "I'm sitting at home after completing my B.tech" or "I'm waiting for a call from a company and will join" etc.

How can i manage this? Well to suddenly jump from a student mentality to a teachers(not exactly one) mentality is pretty difficult and i never think its gonna happen to me. Atleast not with my current approach. :) and then now its fun to listen to both sides of an argument - from the teachers point of view and the students point of view. :D The work is not much pressing and I'm bide my own time with students, techers and whoever will listen to me(well not many ppl can stand me for long).

And there was a chance to meet Dr. APJ Kalam as he came to our college for an interaction with the students ( better not talk about the event..) To see such a person in flesh and blood itself is worth it. And the management skills she showed were truly inspirational. I hope there are more such people in the county. And during the event i understood that "Its better to mind your own buisness that putting ur head where it doesnt belong" :D

I was finally able to shake of the Captain tag(now i'm former captain) as a new Colelge Council was elected. Now many ppl have been askign me this "Are u satisfied with the new council?" I would say that they are a good bunch just give them time to prove their worth and dont start comparing between councils cos its never in the best interests of the current ones.

Finnally ppl have been asking me "Are u planning to stick around here?" or Well cant answer that. I'm bound for 6 months. So i'll be gone before long. Nothing is permanent.

Thats it for now.. More College Escapades will follow.. Keep tuning it to my blog. :D

ADVAY

hmmm this post in on demand!!! but on second thoughts the post i wanted to write most eagerly.. :)

I would love to start with the famous line by Martin Luther King, Jr. " I have a dream". Well actually i had a dream, a dream which i dreamt of since my second year in college. A dream that each and every student and probably teachers to have dreamt sometime or the other. The dream of holding a College level fest( for teachers it would have most preferably been a tech fest).

Though it would not have been fair to say that this was the first attempt at a college fest, but certainly this was the first one that actually took off. The previous 2 attempts flattered at the very start. So lets say we were 3rd time lucky :) So it was a landmark event in the history of the college and the days 19-21st of FEB will be marked in golden letters.

ADVAY, which means unique,(national level Techno-Cultural and mangement fiesta) marked a turn in the college life for the students as it was an event for the students, by the students and from the students. Its success, though expected, made many heads turn as the scale of the event was far more than that expected(well u can think 'm hyping it, but anyone in Team Advay will tell u the same). A revolution had well and truly begun.

Team ADVAY has worked day and night for making the event and all of us are proud to be associated with such an event. Leave alone the accolades that came by, leave alone the praise, leave alone the recognition, the satisfaction all of us got by conducting such an event was worth more than anything that we could possibly receive. Even if that meant we had to do Watchman(yeah, u heard right, spend the day in the security cabin) duty on the days of the fest. The time we spent for the fest has helped us build new bonds, new relations, new understandings and most importantly new belief and new attitude. An attitude which says that WE CAN and WE WILL.

and with the fest now behind us, we are trying to scale new heights again. Lets hope for the best.

On my behalf i thank Team ADVAY and every single person who has contributed for the event. Hope the next one is magnitudes better than the current one.Its difficult to start something, its even more difficult to continue it(well i say so :D )

Let the Revolution Continue!!!!

Small is big!!!

Most of us have known of fights starting from small issues. Now i have witnessed one which started just because of a small 5 letter word written on a road that is nobody's property.

Now u will be thinking how a 5 letter word can lead to a fight. Now 'll say that the word was "ROYAL" and you will be yet again confused. But when i say that the people involved in the fight were the seniors and juniors of my college i guess you get an idea.

I wont go on explaining the events that lead to the fight or even the fight that happened. but this event set me thinking on how things can be always drawn out of proportion, how small things can lead to bigger things, how one cant just change the way how people think, or how people just jump to conclusions. A small thing which could have been resolved my mutual talk went on into a whole scale "war". I know fights have started for smaller reasons that this, but you actually feel silly when it happens right in front of you.

Now after the whole fight when people go out looking for the cause of the fight all they find is a 5 letter word.... now i seriously HATE that 5 letter word.. grrrrr

Another accolade

Right from the start of my college days i have held various positions and done various events for the college. I have held high posts of authority for my department, an independent organization, and many more. people have recognized for the work rate i put in and efficiency of my work. Maybe that why they honored me with the highest accolade that i have got in my college life till now.
****drum roll****
I have been elected College Council Chairperson(college captain). :)
***applause***

After rididng trough some tough competition i won by a landslide a election which i never thought 'll win. Maybe the students are too fond of me and thought 'll be an apt leader for them. Hope i can live up to the expectation that many people have on me.

Thanks to one and all who has contributed to this. Pray for me :)

Hawkeyed!!!!!

Rarely do we come across a topic that is quiet fascinating and that can be taken in such a way that will leave the audience spellbound. I was in search of such a topic to present as 7th semester seminar /paper. the holidays were spent searching various websites giving semianr topics with a small abstract but still i could not find the topic that most fascinated me. almost losing hope i made a note of few topics that were appealing.
Thinking that the seniors will help me i tried out one last resort. Tried chatting with as many seniors as i can get hold to. and that is where is struck gold. One of my seniors told me to take something in sports technology and stated telling me about Hawkeye(though i already knew about it, it had not crossed my mind a a topic worth taking). One wiki search and i knew that i had found what i wanted.

That day started the extensive research and collecting all sorts of info that is available on the net. College started and i had to submit the abstract. I submitted 3 topics. I submitted HAwkeye ,Imax(another topic that interested me, now begin researched by one of my closest friend :) ) and GPS. And the unthinkable happened. The TEacher rejected my main topic and asked me to take GPS (i had already taken this topic in another semester). DAMN !!!! Somehow i coaxed her to accept the topic( that was not tough at all).

I slacked a bit after this and had to make the ppt on the day before the presentation but somehow still managed to make it adding lot of pics and videos. i was feeling jittery as i had not prepared well enough but still was confident of not giving a bad show :) .

The seminar started. I went on with full gusto explaining each and every bit. Usually the trend in seminars is that the class starts minding its own business after a few slides.. but mid way into my presentation i was surprised that most of the class was still paying attention to my blabbering :)
That gave me extra confidence. The seminar ended leaving me satisfied. The teachers really liked my work and asked the others to take examples from my work . But the best part ws when each and evey member present there came and congratulated me for taking a wonderful class. and i guess it was so good that almost the whole college was talking about it the next day. :)

I'm feeling satisfied on a job well done. to know more about Hawkeye visit the following links

Farewell To the Seniors

Last week was the graduation ceremony of the batch just senior to mine. I had some very good friends among that batch and would miss them a lot. Here i dedicate this poem to all of them

Farewell my friends

I will not say good-bye

Yet I would say farewell

For we shall meet again

That I can foretell.

The future is unpredictable

Tomorrow is uncertain

Keep our laughs and memoirs

But I wish you have no burden.

Keep on learning and spread the light

Remain as students and become as mentors

Face the unknown with confident yearning

Pursue our life endeavors.

Farewell, my friends, adieu

I utter it with pain

Farewell, my friends, adieu

In sunshine or in rain.

Farewell, my friends, adieu

This day would come, we knew

Our dreams we shall pursue

For now, my friends, adieu.

I wish you all the very best for your future endeavors and hoping that you will always come up tops in whatever you take up. Will miss you all. Farewell(with tears in my eyes).....................

Yet another sem ends!!

A short but eventful semester finally ends bringing to me some relief and a much needed break. the semester was filled with events and it was so hectic that even if the semester was only for 3 months, i can say that it had lasted for more than that.
But I can proudly look back at the sem and say that i have done something because this is the semester that i secured placement. and also made some much needed progress in the academic region also :)
I made my second project this semester. The project was a media player which can play most of the file types available. and luckily it worked well. i got the second highest mark for project in my batch missing the top mark by the difference of 1 mark. :) But i was happy ccos the topper was one of my close friends.
The semseter also featured a technical fest which i'll remember most for the misunderstandings that happened during the planning and the implementation stage. But 'm not gonna dwell on it much but it did teach me some important things.
The last but not the least.. the exams. They were pretty good this time around. i usually have a paper in which i have a doubt. But this time when i look back i dont see any paper in which i can have a doubt on barring the lab exam( which i screwed up all by myself :) )
The semester ended by the graduation ceremony of the seniors. After they left my batch was the senior most in the college. i just cant believe that . :)
All in all a good semester. and as always hoping for an even better time next semester.

Busy February

After getting placed my blog has been lying inactive. The reasons was a busy schedule and also my lack of finding interest and time to post anything in the blog. :)
February started with the return of seniors after all their project work. The college got a bit livelier after their comeback. Our department started to work on a Technical fest but later on we clubbed with the CS department to work on a combined fest. The event was scheduled on 26th and 27th of the month. Planning went underway and all things started to fall in place.
In between came the college arts and sports.I was made deputy captain of my house(but ppl still think that i'm the captain cos the original captain was never on the spot..hee hee) In spite of all my toils my house finished rock bottom in the houses table :)). The only consolation i got was that my house got 2nd in sports (i got a first in chess) :). No problemo.. i hope to win the house cup next time around :)
The fest day slowly dawned on us. The first day didn't attract as many ppl as we expected.Still our RJ hunt was a success. The second day saw more participation and in totality the fest was a grand success for all those who participated ,but i still refuse to accept it as there were some other activities taking place in the background. For me it was a satisfactory event(maybe cos i have been associated with better events:) ).
In between i arranged 2 workshops , one for MATLAB and other for Wi-Fi, for IEEE.
This year beign a leap year, it felt funny to write feb 29th, cos while writing that i felt that i would not have to write this date again for 4 years.
February has all been about multi tasking, being flexible, convincing ppl and also resolving issues. And now exam time rolling in and 'm on tenterhooks cos i have not sat in much classes this semester(shhhhh!!!!) Hoping for some easy papers and good marks!!!!!

To those who made the fest...... WELL DONE PPL!!!!!!

An Eventful Semester Ends!!!!

With the S5 exams done now 'll be progressing into a new semester. The 5th semester was very eventful with something or the other always happening around. The semester had a host of core IT subjects which included DBMS, System programming to name a few and also for the first time we had to do and present a project(DBMS based) which was an exciting prospect as its useful to gain practical knowledge and no better way that to do it practically.

The semester started with the class planning to go for a Industrial visit. We went on a 4 day tour and visited madras, ponidcherry and kodai(read my earlier posts titled industrial visit). It was very much fun and we got to know our classmates better.

This semester i was more involved in IEEE work which i had joined when i was in S3. Since IEEE in my college was just an year old we were just starting to do more events. So there was at least one , sometimes 2, IEEE event per month. On one sych occasion we went to a school to take class for the 10 grade students and also tell them about the scope and opportunities in Engg. Also there were various workshops and talks. The final work of IEEE for the year was the WIE(Woman In Engg) affinity group which was a 2 day event and we had participation of students from various colleges across Kerala.

But all this activities came at a cost. My academics started lagging behind and then i had to put in some serious effort in the fag end of the semester to make it up.But exams were pretty good.

The 5th semester was the best i had in the college extra curricular activity wise but the worst academic wise. Hoping atleast next sem i can find a balance between both. The subjects in S6 seem pretty interesting but you never know unless you have experienced it first hand. And also the next semester is a crucial year cos that is the time when companies come around for placements.

Anyways 'm currently into my holidays with no idea what to do with the time in hand cos for the first time in 6 months i'm finding myself without any work. :-).

WIE Inaugration

College reopened after Onam Holidays and as i was able to collect the money i had given from my pocket. Just read my Onam Celebration Post. Even if i was not able to collect the full amount i was able to minimize the loss.

As i'm an active member of the IEEE branch in my college i'm currently busy with a 2 day event which i going to be held in our college on 10th and 11th Sept. The event includes the inauguration of the "Women in Engineering" Affinity group, a Workshop by TCS and a Best manager Contest by T.I.M.E ,which is a reputed coaching class center. during the course of this semester IEEE has organized some very good events and workshop. But this will be the biggest of them all. And there are only or so members in the IEEE in my college. So pretty busy these days.

Will try to post about this event in my next post.

Onam Celebrations in college

Onam is a festival which is celebrated with great pomp and activity in Kerala. it is the main festival off all keralites. So most Colleges and schools celebrate it in there own campus. i have missed lot of onams as i have spent the best part of my life outside kerala. but now 'm back here.

We have onam celebration in our college every year. students in our college are divided into 4 houses-agni,akash,prithvi,and vayu. Final year students have a separate house of there own(though it not liked by all). The activities are participated by students of the various houses and they are given prizes. One of the main attraction is the Pookalam(flower carpet) contest. Last year my house had got 2nd in that competition and i wanted to repeat that(oops!!! sorry i forgot to mention that i was made the temporary captain if Agni House :-) ). the day before the celebration was the day our exams were over but my work had just started. i had to collect money from the students so that i can buy flowers for the floral carpet(when onam comes the flowers are more costlier than gold). But by that time most of the students had gone home only leaving a handful back in college. So by the end of the day i had 500 rs( out of which 200 i got from students rest were from my pocket) while the rest of the houses had collected more than a thousand.
That night i sent one of my friends to get the flowers. the Big day arrived and the competition was supposed to start at 9.30 but they started at 9( lack of communication). So we started a hour late. Buy the time we had drawn the carpet using chalk the flowers arrived> luckily we finished the thing just in time. When the results came my house had come second(second cos final years always get first even if they have made the worst thing). Yippeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! I was feeling very happy cos i had emulated performance of last year( first was what i wanted..but i'm happy..maybe next time). And guess what the houses which had collected over 1000Rs came 4th and 5th.
The chief guest gave me my prize which was a box full of chocolates which i distributed to all who had helped me with the contest. thank you guys. The rest of the day was spent watching cultural events( and lot of booing for flop events :-) ).
But now i have to somehow get back the money i had invested in this contest. That will be another Story. i'll post the photos of the event soon
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friendship Day

Today,5th of august, is the friendship day. The day brings back nostalgic memories of all the friends that i have had till now and all the good time that i have spent with them.
i have studied in 4 schools(all KV's) in my schooling days. i have made many friends. many of then i have lost touch with. some i still am in contact with, a big thanks to ORKUT.
I have spent my best days of my schooling in Bombay where i made some great friends whom i miss very much every day. Though they were not my only good friends but they are special as i have spent my growing up years with them.I have learnt a lot from them . a big thanks guys.
Then when i came back to Kochi(which i didn't want), i made some new friends who were very good that they made me get over the mumbai hangover. thanks guys.
In our busy lives we seldom have time to keep in touch with old friends. the only medium that i have now is Orkut. And guess what, due to orkut i was able to meet friends whom i had studied with 10 years ago and we were able to have get together.
in the end i wasn't to say a big thanks to all the friends who have been with me through all my high and low points, for bearing with me.Even if we lose touch you all are still in my heart.
i want to dedicate this following song to all my friends. Enjoy.

Industrial Visit S5 - part 3

it looks like i'm posting in too much detail. so 'm going to cram the rest of the 2 days in this post. these were the days when we had the most of the fun.

day 3- Pondi
we reached Pondi by 8 had breakfast and left to visit Wipro, which was the industry we were supposed to visit. We reached there by 10 and were divided into 2 bacthes of 21 each. we finished the industry visit by 12. So we went sightseeing. had lunch at 1.30. We went to the beach and had lots of fun playing in the water. we left the beach by 6 and had to take a room as most of the people who had ventured into the water had to get fresh. we took a room and got fresh. had dinner by 9 and left pondi by 12.

day 4- Kodai
We reached Kodaikannal(for those who dont know, kodai is a hill station in tamilnadu) just in time for a brunch. After that we went to some gardens and also a suicide point(it was not much of a suicide point as it was all gilled up. i have no idea why they call it the suicide point then). Then we went to a lake which was the main attraction. When we reached there i saw a cycle shop renting cycles. i took a cycle and some of my friends also took one. slowly most of the people had a cycle. those who didnt have were going boating. i preffered cycling as it was one thing i like to do. cycling came naturally to me. So i slowly started off on the cycle. and completed one of the lake before joining with my friends who were taking an ice cream break. Had an icecream and off again for another lap. this time i had company and like this before i knew i had taken 6 laps of the lake. i reached back by 6and the cycle was returned. by that time i was famished and took some friends and went to have some food.
we left for a resort where a camp fire was planned. We played some camp fire games. had dinner and stated off on our way back by 11 or 12. this time i slept well for the first time in 4 days.
i reached back home at 8.30. actually we had to attend classes that day.by kindly our hod gave us the day off. So thus my tour came to a close. the tour in which i made lot of new friends and have lot of fond memories to treasure.

Industrial Visit S5 - part 2

don't read this post unless you have done the first part.

Day2 -
WE were running late as we had made so many stops. to reach madras at 10 would be only distant dream. We reached a Dharmapuri - a small town in tamil nadu. there we brushed our teeth and got fresh( didn't take a bath just freshened up). had our breakfast. then i and one of my friend went battery hunting for my digital camera as my batteries were running low and could die off any minute. but we didnt find any shop which sells batteries required for digicam. finally i gave in and we returned back to our bus and i engrossed my self in a newspaper that i had brought. We finally reached Madras at 1 thanks to our driver who had promised us that we would reach there for lunch. We had lunch and we decided to drop the plan of getting a room in madras to get fresh. though there were some protests they finally gave in when they got the logic. we went shopping in T-Nagar. As i had been there already i was acting as a guide to my mates as i had been there before. all went shopping. i was just window shopping as i had no interest to buy anything. the shopping went on till 8. people started returning with big bags and all. i went with our teacher and brought her as her sandals were giving her some trouble. we brought 2 new pairs of them. then we had dinner at 9 and left Madras at 10. We went to Mamallapuram where we took rooms. I was stinking as i hadn't taken a bath for more than 36 hours. i was asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow. We were told to get up at early s we had to leave by 5. i woke up at 3.30 and also called my friend who was sleeping besides me. We both took baths and woke up the rest of the people in the room. our room was ready by 4.30 all packed up and all. when we went out to see who all were up we were surprised that only some people were awake and the people who told us that we had to wake up at 5 were not even up. finallywe were able to raise the lazy bones and most of them were ready by 5.30. we left at 6 for pondi.

Day 3 in next post.

Industrial Visit S5 - part 1

Industrial visit is being encouraged by the management of every college nowadays. the main idea behind it is the students should let themselves know things practically.not only these i.v’s give exposure in academic point of view, but also exposes students in knowing different places, interacting with industrial people directly. But the students idea is: To hell with the industry, all we want to do is enjoy the days of the iv away from books classes etc.

Our class decided to go on an iv this sem. well it was early to go to a iv as its mostly held when the end of sem approaches but this time students wanted to go early as they know that they will get busy and will not be able to go for an iv by the end of the sem( as by that time results may come out too). The places we decided to go were Madras,Pondicherry and Hokkanakkal(which we later changed to Kodaikanal). After a eventful one week of getting students to come for iv, collecting money, fixing up the industry etc we left for out iv on 26july evening. In the edn out of 62 people in the class 44 decided to come( one didn't come as he met with an accident on the day before the iv) there was a bit of tension on the last day as Wipro- the company which we had requested hadn't sent their permission letter yet, but soon that was solved and we started by 6 p.m(the original time was 5 but the bus we were going on came late and also some students were late too).

That day day was full of troubles troubles and more troubles. we had two industries lined up to go. in the end we decided to drop one. but nobody was informed. we had to waste an hour by the roadside to solve the issue. then the bus headlight stopped working owing to some loose connection. finally we reached thrissur by 9 and had dinner. then we started off again. the bus had an awesome music system and disco lights. we all danced till we were tired(dancing went on for 2-3 hours). Then we reached Walayar, which is the checkpoint between the kerala-tamilnadu border. There was a huge traffic jam there. usually when i had passed throught that place when i went with family we never had much trouble and crossed in 2 mins or so. but this time we had to stay in the traffic jam for 2 1/2 hours. man it was really irritating. then we crossed it. one by one everybody started falling asleep. i was not getting much sleep dont know why. then i went and sat with the drivers and for the rest of the night followed the roads( which were very good and a sight to behold at night) and chased down other vehicles. soon i was joined by 2 of my other friends. the bus was going full throttel all the time. a amazing sight i saw that night that the road had trees on both sides and their brances were bent and the trees on both sides of the road met in the middle of the road forming a canopy on top of the road.it was a amazing sight and i tried to take pics of it but all i got was my camera flash reflected in the glass of the windshield. then we met with our cs batch who had left a day before us. they had some problem with their bus. and we stopped again to help them out. stopped for tea at 5 at some wayside tea shop. most of the students were sleeping and didnt know that we had stopped. some of those who were awake went for a refreshing tea break. then i slept for a wink at 6. and some idiot took the photo of me sleeping and sampled it to the whole bus(as he had no other job in the world).

this was the first day. read the second part which 'm posting next.

Toc-H Institute Of Science and Technology- My college

Toc-H or TIST, as we call it in college, is one of the most reputed self financing colleges in kerala. it located 28kms from the city of ernakulam.
I joined the college on 1st Aug 2005 after getting the seat on merit of the Kerala entrance exams. I was excited as i didnt get a very high rank in the entrance exams. But i nearly got in Cusat but the last minute i decided that i didnt want to join CUSAT and decided to remain in Toc-H which is also affliated to CUSAT university.

The college life has been very exciting and full of fun. The college has given me lot of friends who i cherish very much. The participation in differrent activities of the college has given me a lot of exposure to things which i would not have got anywhere else(to my belief at least).
keep reading my posts and i'll tell you more about my college and the activities that are taking place there.
